Lake Shumarinai_Uryu Dam

During the Japan trip, I had the somber opportunity to visit a dam site with a dark history intertwined with it. This particular infrastructure was built using forced Korean labor, and even more harrowing was the knowledge that many of these laborers were subsequently killed. Walking within its confines, a chill ran down my spine as I imagined the countless innocent souls who had once toiled there. Guides shared heart-wrenching tales of the brutality that these Korean workers had faced — forced into backbreaking labor in an unforgiving environment, with little regard for their well-being. The visit served as a powerful reminder of the human costs that sometimes lie behind monumental structures, and of the importance of remembering and acknowledging these histories.
